When emails won't go thru to NT side

When DNS updated or upgraded, the DNS server may not allow zone-transfers by the Alpha system.  This will result in emailed messages
from the Alpha to stay "pending" in the tcpip$smtp server que.

If I query for resolution of STGREGORYS.EDU I receive:

$ ucx show host stgregorys.edu
     BIND database
Server:   172.30.254.98    dhcp-print.stgregorys.edu
Host address    Host name
172.30.254.110  STGREGORYS.EDU
172.30.254.95   STGREGORYS.EDU
172.30.254.88   STGREGORYS.EDU
172.30.254.90   STGREGORYS.EDU
172.30.254.87   STGREGORYS.EDU
172.30.6.115    STGREGORYS.EDU
172.30.6.101    STGREGORYS.EDU
172.30.6.146    STGREGORYS.EDU
172.30.5.56     STGREGORYS.EDU
172.30.5.10     STGREGORYS.EDU
172.30.5.245    STGREGORYS.EDU

172.29.1.10     STGREGORYS.EDU
172.16.22.160   STGREGORYS.EDU
If I attempt to use NSLOOKUP from the Alpha to query the DNS for MX records I receive:
> ls -m stgregorys.edu
[dhcp-print.stgregorys.edu]
*** Can't list domain stgregorys.edu: Unspecified error
>
ls -m stgregorys.edu.
[dhcp-print.stgregorys.edu]
*** Can't list domain stgregorys.edu.: Unspecified error

Without MX redirection, the system will attempt to deliver to the first resolution (172.30.254.110) which most likely is not the mail server.  The resolution is to either correct the protection for zone-transfers, or put an entry in the local host table for STGREGORYS.EDU which points to your mail server.
$ UCX SET HOST STGREGORYS.EDU/ADDRESS=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Also:

  1. Exchange System Manager (main Window), Default SMTP Virtual Server Properties (2nd window), Connection (3rd window), make entry. Rather than having the connection allow all connections except the list below, I have it allowing non except the list below which I have set to 172.30.254.124.
  2. On 01/16/06, NT manager was working on the ques at the same time that a PX message was sent.  The PX message got stuck in the NT que.  If this happens again, the NT manager should check SMTP Virtual Server to make sure there is nothing stuck in the que.
