Reprieving grades

We enabled the Reprieve option in July 2005, but there were nagging problems, so we disabled it again.  The problem was that the reprieve flag kept unintentionally appearing in Type 4 records in Reg.dat.  Eric, Dan and Lamar (ESP) worked on the problem but were unable to ascertain the reason.  They concluded that the reprieve flag had to be set by user action, i.e., it isn't being set through a program error.

If Registrar needs to reprieve a grade, Lamar should be called and asked to enable reprieve option temporarily.  After the grade reprieve has been completed, he needs to disable the option.

I HAVE TAKEN THE REPRIEVE FLAG OUT BUT HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIGURE OUT HOW IT IS GETTING SET.  I DON’T THINK IT WAS BY ENTERING GRADES, I HAVE TRIED TO DUPLICATE THAT AND HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL.  I ASKED DAN TO LOOK AT THE PROGRAMS AND HE SAID HE DOESN’T SEE ANYTHING EITHER THAT WOULD BE CAUSING THIS. I WILL KEEP LOOKING AND WILL ASK LAMAR NEXT WEEK.  ERIC
