Grading:  Pass/Fail Option

When I try to enter a grade of “P,” the system responds with “invalid grade.”

In order for a grade of “P” to be valid, one or the other of the following must happen.  Either the COURSE record must be flagged as a Pass/Fail course before students enroll in the course, or the /PF qualifier must be used when the student enrolls

Option 1.  Set up a new course with the proper flag or modify an existing course record, enter “P” in the appropriate box of the Course screen.  This action forces a P/F grade, i.e., no other grade will be valid.

Pass/Fail Course:   P            P = Pass/Fail

L = Not a Pass/Fail course

Option 2.  If a student is approved to enroll for a “P/F” grade in a course which has not been flagged as a Pass/Fail course (the .passfail field is blank), the qualifier “/PF” must follow the Course ID when the enrollment record is entered.

An “invalid grade” error message indicates that neither of these options has been taken.  The only alternative is to modify the student’s enrollment record.   Select MAIN MENU, REGISTRATION, MODIFY.   Enter the Course ID, then modify Line 6.  Example:
