At CGCC, we create a master course where the actual total enrollment of the class is maintained.
Using your example, we would give that course the id ART900, the title of the course would be
something like "ART279X/MDST279X Master" and the enrollment limit for the multiple courses would be
set to 20 there. Each of the individual courses is created with enrollment limits set to zero for
each of them (ART279 limit 0; MDST279 limit 0), and co-requisite of ART900 is added to each of them.
Generally, we add an X to the course number to help "flag" the course as needing special handling
for registration.

Advisors and any other personnel responsible for entering registrations are told that they must
FIRST add the ART900 course to the student's schedule to see if there are seats available. Under
no circumstances are they allowed to override the enrollment limit on the master course.
Only after the ART900 course is successfully added to the student's schedule are they to add the
actual course that the student wants to take (the ART279 or the MDST279), and they are SUPPOSED to
override the enrollment limit on that course only.

When the Registration office was the only place where registration was actually done (i.e., the
data entry was done by Registration personnel), this arrangement worked quite well. Once we moved
to advisor's entering their own registrations, it became problematic at best.

Subject: [PX-L] Multiple Listed Courses

Hello PX People :-)

I would like to know if anyone has a sufficient way to track enrollment
limit and current enrollment fields in the COURSE file for multiple
listed courses, on the fly as students add/drop from the course(s)? As
I understand it, the system automatically updates the totals as a
student add/drop in a particular course.

However, I want to be able to have a limit of say 20 students in a
course that is double listed as ART279 and MDST279. As it is now, the
reg office puts a limit of 10 on each of the courses. Then they check
and adjust the enrollment limit in the courses to meet the needs of the
current registration of each course. So by the end of registration, the
ART class may have 3 and the MDST class may have 17.

As you can understand that is a lot of manual maintenance when you have
30-40 of those types of courses.

Does anyone have a "master" course limit solution or a way that they can
link these courses (sometimes as many as 3 or 4) for enrollment
numbers/seats??

Please share how you handle double/triple listed courses (1 actual
course time) to be sure that you do not over/under book the course as a
whole??

Thanks!
Jane
